Ice bucket Challenge

My first impression of the „Ice bucket Challenge“ was „what the hell are they doing?“. It was more because they nominated friends and wanted to get something when they don’t do it, like money, beer or so. 
When I found out why they originally doing it, I was like “This is great. So everybody will know about ALS” but then I found out something really horrible for me.

I’m against this challenge. 

The most money from the donation is for the research to get medication to help the ALS patient. Up to this point I agree but when I look deeper in it I’m so against it.

Celebrities, politicians and everybody else pour iced water over themselves and donate for an organization in the USA which supports the research on a rare nerve disease. But not many of you know that they now support cruel and senseless animal testing.

Mostly genetically modified Mouse and rats are used for the testing. They should show the same symptoms as the ALS-patients do. Therefore they turn off a gen to get the symptoms.
It works, the animals are suffering from progressive paralysis and die painfully. 
It has been known for years that animal testing for ALS research are a complete misnomer.
There were some medicals which helps the animals. But when they tested it on human ALS patient all failed completely. Only one substance has an minimalist help for them.

They tested one active substance which extended the life of an mouse for 30 days. When they tested it on hundreds patients and had costs from 100 million dollars this active substance had no effect.

Animals and human have different reaction on some substance so you can never say if this would help you when the animal stay alive. But when they stay alive they will be killed, so they would see how the inner organs have react.  

When my cousin nominated me I refused it, because of this. I understand any patient which want help that they wouldn’t look behind it. But I can and want look behind it. I posted the information on my facebook side so everybody could read it when they want.

There are alternative to animal testing. These test are meaningful, more reliable and less expensive than animal testing. The new methods are on the computer and on human cell culture.

This was only a short story why i dislike this challenge.
